Resilience, Mindfulness & Stress Management

Techniques and strategies to increase self-awareness, shift your response to stress and build resilience

real success is built on a healthy workplace

Healthy Relationships are Built on Respect, Integrity, Empathy, Connection and Inclusivity

A healthy workforce is a moral and business imperative. See WHY

We spend more than one-third of our lives at work, roughly 80,000 hours over a life time. The quality of the relationships we have at work and the health of the workplace are critical to our performance and the quality of our lives.

Building a healthy workplace is more than just a goal; it’s a profound commitment to the well-being and dignity of every individual. A healthy workplace nurtures an environment where people feel safe, valued, and supported.

Seven elements of resilience

The Inner and Outer Game of Resilience

Building resilience is a journey that aligns the inner and outer game. It begins within, where a growth mindset transforms challenges into opportunities for learning and improvement, while self-compassion and empathy remind us to treat ourselves and others with kindness and understanding. This inner resilience is fortified by hope, the belief that, no matter the difficulty, a positive future is always possible.

In the outer game, resilience is built through trust, connection, and meaningful relationships, creating support networks that make us stronger together. Radical candor enhances these connections by fostering open, honest communication, creating a foundation of trust.

The outer game also involves anticipation—the readiness to foresee and prepare for potential challenges—and adaptability, the flexibility to adjust plans and behaviors in response to change.

Together, these seven elements cultivate a balanced resilience that empowers us to face adversity with courage, compassion, and connection.

Mindfulness and (Self-)Compassion - the Building Block of Resilience

"Meditation helps me lead" - Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce

Life is full of surprises—ups and downs, unexpected twists, and curveballs are inevitable. Yet, our real power isn’t in controlling these outside forces; it’s in cultivating inner strength and choosing how we respond. Mindfulness gives us the tools to do just that. It’s the art of staying present, with a calm mind, an open heart, and a body ready to adapt. Embracing each moment as it is, we find resilience not by changing the world around us, but by nurturing peace and flexibility within.

“Mindfulness is the key to breaking the chains of our own thoughts.” — Thich Nhat Hanh, Zen Buddhist monk, teacher, and author

Mindfulness and self-compassion are incredibly powerful tools to help you reconnect with your own humanity and your emotions, to reduce stress, and to be more resilient. Create a daily practice that will help you focus on what’s really important, allowing you to show up for yourself and for your team with greater clarity and calm.

mind-hacks

Are you ready to shift?

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." - Max Planck

Turn up resilience and reduce stress by choosing to change your outlook on a situation, the meaning you give it, and the narrative you create

5 Mind-Hacks to Use Today:

  1. Reframe negative thoughts: "I'm under such pressure" to "This is a chance to prioritise differently"

  2. Use "what if" constructively: "what if this goes wrong?" to "what if I can handle anything that comes at me?"

  3. Reframe negative thinking: "I missed the bus, I'll be late for work, it's a bad day" to "I missed the bus, this is an opportunity to rest, I notice the flowers and the blue sky, this is a great day"

  4. Label your emotions, ask what they tell you and question the validity of their claim, to reduce their entrapment "I am so worried about my meeting today, I feel the fear in the pit of my stomach, this tells me that I'm afraid I'll be judged for not doing my job well, which is not 100% true. This is what I know and I'm doing well..."

  5. Revise and release unspoken rules "I can't stand...", "I should be...", "People should be...", "It's always... or never...". E.g. "I should talk to my mother overseas tonight" to "it's ok to say "no" and tell her I'm too tired tonight".

the cost of inaction
a healthy workplace - an imperative

The data is clear: addressing stress in the workplace isn't just a moral imperative but a business one

7 Reasons Why You Need to Act Now:

1. Decline in Employee Productivity

  • 77% of employees report experiencing burnout, and chronic stress has been shown to reduce productivity by up to 33%. (Deloitte’s Workplace Burnout Survey2020)

2. Increased Absenteeism and Health-Related Costs

  • Employees with high levels of stress are nearly twice as likely to call in sick. (Gallup, The Costs of Job Stress, 2020)

  • The European Union estimates that absenteeism costs European businesses about 2.5% of GDP annually, amounting to approximately €420 billion.

  • Stress-related absenteeism costs U.S. businesses approximately $300 billionannually in healthcare costs, absenteeism, and lost productivity, according to the American Institute of Stress.

3. Higher Turnover Rates

  • 40% of employees considering leaving their jobs cite workplace stress as a primary reason. Turnover leads to recruitment and training costs, which can amount to 1.5-2 times the annual salary of the departing employee. (McKinsey & Company, The Great Attrition: Requiring a new focus on employee well-being, 2021)

4. Impact on Mental Health

  • 60% of workers experience stress or anxiety that impacts their job performance. Mental health issues stemming from chronic stress also increase healthcare expenses and contribute to a toxic work environment. (PwC, It’s time to take the mental health of employees seriously, 2021)

5. Innovation and Creativity Decline

  • High-stress environments inhibit creativity and problem-solving capabilities. Teams under stress are less likely to collaborate effectively or think inovatively, resulting in stagnation and reduced competitive edge. (Harvard Business ReviewHow stress affects your creativity, 2019)

6. Decreased Employee Engagement

  • 44% of global workers experience daily stress, and this stress is strongly linked to disengagement at work. In fact, 59% of employees worldwide are "quiet quitting," meaning they are not engaged and are doing the bare minimum to keep their jobs. This disengagement directly affects team morale, collaboration, and the overall culture of the organisation.

  • Low employee engagement is costing the global economy $8.8 trillion, which is about 9% of global GDP(Gallup, State of the Global Workplace Report, 2023)

7. Legal and Reputational Risks

  • Workplace stress and burnout have led to increased lawsuits, as employees sue companies for negligence in protecting their mental health. PwC notes that unresolved stress can also damage the company's reputation, affecting talent attraction and customer trust.
